2024 Master Food Preserver Training Course
Course will be offered through Shasta College:
- Live online class: Thursdays 1/11/24 - 5/23/24, 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM or Fridays 1/12/24 - 5/23/24, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM (choose either day)
- In-person lab at Redding Main Campus: Saturdays 3/2/24, 3/16/24, 4/13/24 and 5/11/24
The University of California Master Food Preserver Program invites adults interested in helping others learn about safe home food preservation to apply for certification as a UC Master Food Preserver volunteer of the North State. Prior food preservation experience is not required.
UC MFP volunteers learn research-based food preservation techniques and then share that knowledge with their local community at online and in-person public demonstrations and guest speaker presentations, through social media, and at information booths at farmers markets, county events and the California State Fair.

Who can apply:
- Residents living in Shasta, Tehama or Trinity Counties
- Applicants must be comfortable using computers and accessing the internet. Classes, homework and quizzes are all online in Google Classroom. Communication is done through email.
- Positive attitude, excited to learn, open to new experiences and mostly importantly a volunteer spirit!
Time commitment:
- 11 online classes & 4 in-person labs
- Approximately 5 hrs/week for online class, homework, reading, case studies
Program fee:
- $250 (includes registration, textbooks, lab supplies)
To apply:
- Attend one online information meeting: Friday 10/20/23 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM or Thursday 11/9/23 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM; Register in advance
- Submit a 2024 UC Master Food Preserver Training Program Application; due by Sunday 11/19/23
- Complete a California Department of Justice Live Scan background check; the required form will be emailed to you after your application has been reviewed
